Silverado 1500 Driveshaft 2007-2013: How to Confirm OE 15794277 / 20912697 Fitment Before You Order
The Silverado 1500 changed driveshaft length, U-joint series and slip yoke across cab, bed, drive type and transmission between 2007 and 2013. Two shafts that both list 15794277 as an OE reference can still be different parts — length, U-joint cap diameter and balance weight placement all change with the build. This page is written to do one thing first: confirm the correct shaft for your truck before you place an order. Send the full 17-digit VIN and we cross-reference it against the OE fitment database before the shaft is packed.
The complete assembly ships balanced and run-tested, with U-joints fitted and the slip yoke in place. The test record travels with the packing list.
Confirm Fitment in Three Ways — VIN, RPO Sticker or Measurement
The most reliable route is VIN. The second is the RPO sticker in the glovebox. The third is to measure the original shaft from the centre of one U-joint to the centre of the other. Use whichever is available; the VIN check is the fastest because we run it against the OE database directly.
01
Send the 17-digit VIN.
The VIN decodes cab, bed, drive type, engine and transmission — all four variables that change the driveshaft. We cross-reference the VIN against the OE 15794277 / 20912697 fitment database and confirm the correct configuration before packing.
02
Check the RPO sticker in the glovebox.
The sticker lists axle and driveline codes. Send the codes and we cross-reference them against the driveshaft part number. This is useful when the VIN is not available — for example on a rebuilt or imported truck.
03
Measure the original shaft.
With the truck on level ground and the parking brake set, measure from centre of one U-joint cap to centre of the other, and note the U-joint cap diameter. Send both numbers and we confirm the U-joint series and length. This is the fallback when neither VIN nor RPO sticker is available.
A driveshaft that is the right length but the wrong U-joint series will not fit — the cap diameter is as important as the length. Confirm both before ordering.

What This Shaft Is Built to Do
Balanced for highway-speed vibration control
Each assembly is balanced and run-tested at working speed before packing. A shaft that balances at low speed but vibrates above 60 mph is usually a weight placement problem — the run test catches it before shipment.
Direct fit to the original mounting points
Flange pattern, slip yoke and U-joint caps match the original build, so the shaft installs on the original bolts and mounting hardware without adapters. If the original bolts are seized or damaged, replace them — reusing stretched bolts is a common cause of vibration after a shaft swap.
Wear resistance on the slip spline and U-joint caps
The slip spline and U-joint caps are the two wear surfaces that decide service life. Both are treated for durability; the U-joints are fitted and greased at assembly, and the slip spline is coated so it does not seize in the transmission tail housing after a few winters of road salt.
Common Failure Symptoms This Shaft Addresses
Most Silverado 1500 driveshaft replacements happen for one of four reasons. If the truck shows more than one of these symptoms, the shaft is the likely cause — but confirm the U-joints and centre bearing first, because a worn U-joint can imitate a worn shaft.
Vibration
Vibration that starts above a specific speed (usually 50–65 mph) and disappears below it. A shaft-related vibration typically increases with speed and does not change when the transmission shifts.
Clunk
A single clunk when shifting from Park to Drive, or when accelerating from a stop. Often the slip yoke or U-joint rather than the tube itself — but a worn slip spline on the original shaft is a common root cause.
Squeak
Rhythmic squeaking that follows wheel speed. Usually a dry or worn U-joint cap. If greasing does not silence it, the U-joint — and often the shaft — needs replacement.
Rust / pitting
Surface rust on the tube is cosmetic; rust that pits the slip spline or the U-joint seats is not. Pitted slip splines seize in the tail housing and load the transmission output bearing.
Installation Notes
Before removal
Mark the flange-to-yoke relationship on both ends with a paint pen before unbolting. The shaft is balanced as an assembly; refitting it 180° out of phase is a common cause of vibration that is then misdiagnosed as a bad shaft.
Bolts
Replace the flange bolts and U-joint strap bolts rather than reusing them. Stretched bolts lose clamp load and the joint moves under torque — this produces a clunk that sounds like a worn U-joint but is actually a loose joint.
Slip yoke
Apply a thin film of the specified grease to the slip spline before insertion — not a heavy coat. Excess grease hydraulically locks the slip yoke and can damage the transmission tail seal on the first hard acceleration.
After installation
Road-test at increasing speed on a straight, empty road. Vibration that appears only in a turn points to a U-joint phase or centre bearing issue, not the shaft itself. If vibration persists after a correct install, re-check the U-joint caps are seated squarely in the yoke.
Ordering, Sample and OEM Packaging
To quote, send the VIN, the quantity and the destination. If OEM packaging is required, send the trademark authorization letter with the order — carton artwork and label layout are confirmed in writing before production. A single sample shaft can be sent before a bulk order; the sample cost is credited against the bulk order once placed.
Stock configuration ships in 3–7 working days from order confirmation. OEM packaging and custom builds are 15–45 working days depending on carton print method and order quantity. For related driveline components — U-joints, slip yokes and centre bearings — see the drive shaft parts range and the universal joint range. Complete driveline assemblies for other GM truck platforms are listed under CV joint & drive shaft.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I confirm this driveshaft fits my Silverado 1500?
Send the full 17-digit VIN. We cross-reference the VIN against the OE 15794277 / 20912697 fitment database and confirm cab, bed, drive type, engine and transmission before shipping. The RPO sticker in the glovebox also lists axle and driveline codes that can be used if the VIN is not available.
Does this driveshaft fit both 2WD and 4WD Silverado 1500?
The OE 15794277 and 20912697 references cover specific 2WD and 4WD build combinations — they are not interchangeable across all configurations. The driveshaft length, U-joint series and slip yoke differ by cab, bed and transfer case. VIN verification is required before order.
What are the MOQ, lead time and warranty terms?
MOQ is 10 pcs for the stock configuration; custom and OEM packaging are quoted per order. Stock ships in 3–7 working days; OEM packaging or custom build is 15–45 working days. Warranty is 1 year; claim procedure and warranty terms are confirmed in writing on the quotation.
Can you supply OEM-branded packaging?
Yes. Neutral carton is standard; OEM branded carton, label and part number are available with an authorization letter from the trademark holder. MOQ for OEM packaging depends on carton size and print method and is quoted per order.
What is included in the shipment?
The complete driveshaft assembly, balanced and run-tested, with the U-joints fitted and the slip yoke in place. Bolts and installation hardware are not included unless specified on the quotation. The test record and packing list travel with the shipment.
How is the driveshaft shipped and how is damage handled?
By sea, air or express depending on order size and destination. Each assembly is packed in a reinforced carton with end caps. Damage in transit is handled against the carrier's claim procedure; photograph the carton and the shaft before opening fully and send the photos with the claim.
